I recently returned home after a lovely holiday in South Africa to find the playground tree had been cut back. I cannot see an obvious reason for it other than whilst away winds broke a branch of the tree and the local council saw it appropriate to eliminate any futher hazard to locals?
I’d be interested to hear if you have any idea?

Why not phone up the Tree Officer and ask?

Hi Matt, thanks for popping by.
Thanks for the great idea. I did speak with a very helpful guy from Mole Valley office (Ron Howe) and whilst he is not directly responsible for the Oak tree now, high winds caused damage.
So with broken branches and the potential to cause harm, vulnerable branches were cleared.
Fortunately during the period no injuries were reported. (I can understand why no one was hanging around during high winds
)
