I’ve been a local resident (in Beare Green) for ~3 years now and I’ve yet to drink from a ‘local’ pub. Bad huh? Some might argue that I’m missing out, but not being an avid pub socialite or drinker, I don’t get that calling that’s instinctive in local blood. You know, your mates are down the pub talking, joking and gossiping about locals while flexing their natural arm. Sometimes I wish I could walk down the road and have a couple and meet locals to find out what the villagers are like.
The Duke Head pub
Could you might recommend a good local pub for me to try. The only pub I know of is The Duke’s Head, on Horsham Road. I’ve heard they are under new management – wonder whether the service and atmosphere has improved? If the owner is reading this perhaps he might challenge me to visit and report back to this blog and its readers?

I have lived in Beare Green for over 3 weeks now and doubt if I will be visiting the Dukes head. I have met some locals when out in the woods with my dog, one of whom waxed quite lyrical about the Dukes Head. As I am not really a pub officianado, like yourself. I am confident that we will probably never meet. unless, you too. walk your dog in the only good place. the very muddy woods just off Leith Road.
I wanted to know the history of our village. All I have found out is that it was once part ofCapel, and seems to be famous for being close to somewhere else.

Hi John, thanks for popping by and sharing your thoughts (The Dukes Head). I heard similar reports, however with new management I expect there might be some change afoot.
LIke you I’m interested to learn more about BG. I’m speaking with a village ‘authority’ sometime soon so hope to gain some further insight. Check back for an update. (for now, though, I’ve started a ‘History’ page to get us going. Take a look at the History page.)
