Local Elections

So, did you vote on Thursday?

Polling Station: Beare Green

Polling Station: Beare Green

As usual it was a very low-key event in Beare Green. Little sign of councillor activity prior to the voting. I did receive a leaflet through the post I must just say. It was a Lib Dem (Iain Murdoch)-led pitch letter against the Conservatives and proclaiming change must come to our area. Even the leaflet hinted apathy. At the end of the personal note this is what it said (note the Thursday mis-spelling):

P.S. Your vote on Thursady is important – please use it to help change things for the better
– Iain Murdoch

So after all the voting the Conservative, Helyn Clack (2,225 votes), still retains her seat for Dorking Rural. Iain Murdoch (Lib Dem) came a close second with 1,956 votes. I wonder if Helyn will see her narrow victory as a wake up call and start paying more attention to our village and surrounding. Helyn, if you read this post I’d love to hear what you have to say? Thanks.

Hot summers day in the country

Margam Park, Wales

Margam Park, Wales

In some ways it’s a shame we are heading to Wales when the weather forecast looks so good. As a serious mountain biker I tend to race a lot and this often involves travel. This time I’m taking the entire family to Margam Park, South Wales. We plan to drive there after work and then camp the night. My lovely daughter and I will race tomorrow (Saturday) and then head back to Beare Green on Saturday evening.

So, what are you planning over the weekend?

Train disruptions (May 26th and 27th)

This morning (Tuesday, 26th May) I decided to catch the train to work – London Waterloo. When I got to the station platform I noticed signs indicating engineering works which would disrupt train times this week. Here’s the notice from the station:

On the blogging map

So, I finally decided to get this blog registered. I had intended to create a Ning social networking site, but then I’m not sure the Beare Green demographic supports this type of community-driven site.

Anyway, what’s the purpose of this site? I want to share news, ideas, changes – general happenings in the village. I also want to use this blog to hear what other Beare Green residents have to say too.

This is very open and I encourage you to post comments and share your thoughts. For those interested in contributing to the blog (actually writing on this blog) please email me (bearegreen [at] googlemail [dot] com) – I’d love to have guest bloggers here ;-)

Now, I’ll start by making a list of all the things I love about Beare Green. Got any suggestions as starters?

Cheers,

– Rob
